Is a shielding evaluation required?

It is the responsibility of the facility to ensure that radiation levels in adjacent areas are acceptably low. This is accomplished by completing a shielding evaluation.

Will shielding be needed in a low volume facility?

Patient workload is an important part of the shielding calculations. Low volume facilities or x-ray rooms will need less shielding than higher volume areas.

Dental Shielding

Radiation shielding needs for dental x-ray operatories and dedicated x-ray rooms depend on many variables such as patient workload, size of room, adjacent area use and status and other concerns. HPNW will verify all clinical and design parameters so that the recommended radiation shielding is specifically designed for the room. NCRP Guidelines and restrictive allowable dose limits are used to ensure a safe working environment and regulatory compliance.
